Name: Meredith Jones

Nickname: None! My mom was adamant when I was younger that I would NOT have a nickname, particularly, “Mere” because I am not a female horse.

Day Job: Senior Director of Clinics and Community Pet Services for the SPCA of Texas

How long have you have been practicing at YS? A little over 6 months (started in July 2018)

What is your favorite YS workshop or class? All of them! Each class and teacher challenges me in a different way.

Name one thing you consider yourself to be very good at: Holiday decorating! My granddad and aunt owned their own interior decorating company so it’s in my blood 🙂

What’s the number one yoga pose you just love to practice? This is really boring but… I love chair pose!

Why did you start practicing yoga? Initially, it was to supplement my Crossfit training. But now, I am spending equal time with both because I love the community at YogaSport and the lasting effects that yoga gives me outside the studio. I always walk out of YogaSport feeling more confident about myself and ability to take on anything!

Who inspires you the most and why? My granddad. He forged his own path in life and did so gracefully, courageously, and humbly. He grew up in an impoverished farming family in the 1930’s/40’s, met my grandmother when he was stationed at Pearl Harbor during WW2, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma (go Sooners!) on the GI Bill, majoring in home economics (the only male in his class!). Then he opened his own interior decorating business that grew to a storefront on the main street of Norman, OK!

What do you just love about YogaSport? The community is amazing! I always feel so empowered from the second I walk in the door to after I leave. The confidence that each teacher has in me makes me feel more confident about myself.

What’s your guilty pleasure? Really terrible horror movies. I can quote the entire Tremors movie.

Favorite Local Restaurant(s): Origin

Favorite Vacation Spot: Hawaii!

What is one thing we don’t know about you that would surprise us? I was a Muay Thai fighter for 5 years when I lived in Ohio. I regularly traveled around the East coast fighting (sanctioned fights, of course)!
